CCSS insists necessity of reducing physical inactivity

Specialists and officials of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) consider that after the holidays and new year’s celebrations, is important to retake good eating habits, leaving sedentary lifestyle and taking care of health is in the hands of each .


According to William Ruby Quiros, trainer of the CCSS, movement is part of the human being and in antiquity unlike what is happening today, people moved to chase prey or walk to get water and fruits of the earth .


Experts advise that food intake should be proportional to energy expenditure because the lack of physical activity will favor the gestation of chronic diseases affecting the population growing at an earlier age.


Ruby Quirós explained that many people work several hours sitting and back to their homes, sit in front of the TV or computer.


The latest survey of Cardiovascular Risk CCSS revealed that although currently there are more active people than in 2010, inactivity remains a major public health problem.


He suggested purpose for this year, leave the car at home and walk to the supermarket, visiting family, shopping at the fair farmer, take family walks, spend less remote control and get up to perform actions involving movement and not rely on remote devices.


It is also recommended to get off a few blocks before work, up and down stairs, in large shopping centers avoid escalators and mechanical ramps, place a leash on the dog and walk or run with it ... are practices that should be made to reduce the level of physical inactivity.


The specialist noted that the technology used well can become an ally of our health to be applications for smartphones such as those recorded the steps taken daily. On average 10 thousand daily are recommended.


Ruby explained that a minimum of 30 minutes of daily physical activites and half-hour means between 3500 and 4000 steps will be a proper a good way to start and then increase the time recommended.


The specialist said that the biggest benefit that can be achieved is to promote health and prevent diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, osteoporosis, heart disease, lung and sore lower back are prevented by preventing weaken grow muscles and abdomen.
