CCSS Takes 10,146 Consults By Telemedicine

A total of 10,146 consultations are carried out by the different areas of health and hospitals Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) through telemedicine programs.

 

As noted by Dr. Ana Cristina Chaves Hidalgo, coordinator of the subarea Telehealth, currently 42 health centers are equipped with telemedicine equipment and perform various activities that directly benefit the insured population.

 

The specialist explained that thanks to this technology, hospitals Calderon Guardia, San Juan de Dios, Mexico, National Children, National Geriatrics and Gerontology, Escalante Pradilla, Monsignor Sanabria, Tony Facio, San Vito de Coto Brus and Service Centers for health in Cañas and Puriscal and health areas of Golfito, Siquirres, Talamanca, Coto Brus, among others, conduct consultations by this technological resource.

 

Dermatology, orthopedics, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, peripheral vascular, nephrology, orthopedic pediatrics and nutrition are some of the telemedicine special consults.

 

The experts noted that some medical centers have X-ray scanner, which has the function of scanning the x-rays taken to patients; This procedure allows the plate to convert digital format. Such teams are located in hospitals Guapiles, Greece, Upala, Los Chiles and San Vito Health and areas of Buenos Aires, CAIS Canas.

 

With a high-resolution monitor that can display with high accuracy, X-rays are sent to the respective evaluation by specialists. These monitors are located in hospitals Rafael Angel Calderon Guardia, San Juan de Dios, Mexico and National Children.

 

Hospitals also use this technology for conducting clinical sessions, allowing discussion of cases among several specialists, in order to improve the therapeutic approach. For example, clinical sessions are conducted in gynecology, nephrology, pediatric surgery, breast clinics, palliative care, emergency, internal medicine ...

 

This program, according to Dr. Chaves, is of great benefit to patients, since the shift to more complex centers are avoided and are accelerated diagnostic and therapeutic
